Student Travel Grants

Description

The American Society for Horticultural Science announces that a limited number of travel grants of $500 each will be awarded to domestic graduate and undergraduate students attending the ASHS Annual Conference. Recipients must be presenting papers at the Annual Conference

In addition, a limited number of grants of $750 will be available to international students.

Requirements

To be eligible, students must be enrolled in horticultural science as a major course of study and must have submitted an abstract title (or complete abstract) for presentation at the ASHS Annual Conference.

The criteria for selection begins with the department heads or chairs, who will submit applications and copies of the abstracts prepared by eligible students.

The number of abstracts submitted by each department will be based on the number of students enrolled in the department for the current academic year—one undergraduate abstract for every 50 undergraduate students enrolled and one graduate abstract for every 30 graduate students enrolled.

If the names of more than one student in either the undergraduate or graduate category are submitted, the department head or chair must rank the students for each category.

Instructions

Individual travel grants will be awarded on the basis of merit and geographical distribution, and an attempt will be made to distribute awards fairly among undergraduate and graduate students.

Selection will be handled by the Scholarship Awards Committee. Nominations (including an application form and a photocopy of the nominee's abstract) must be submitted to ASHS Headquarters by 4 April.

Award selection and notification will be made by 31 May.

Travel grants are distributed at the ASHS Annual Conference (no show = no check).

Each student must attend the Annual Conference in order to receive his or her check.
