WOODY ORNAMENTALS PLANT BREEDER - Guadalupe, CA

Ball Horticultural Company, an international corporation with interests in nearly every facet of the horticultural industry, has an immediate opening for a Woody Ornamentals Plant Breeder in our Ball Ornamentals Business Unit focusing on breeding ornamental woody plants for distribution through Ball Ornamentals worldwide.

This position will be responsible for developing and managing a long-term, sustainable breeding program for Ball Ornamentals, establishing breeding objectives and developing breakthrough breeding of woody ornamental product offerings for the nursery industry.

The ideal candidate will possess a MS or PhD in Horticulture/Plant Breeding and a minimum of 3 years’ + industry experience; knowledge of all woody ornamental plants commonly sold in the Northern Hemisphere are required; knowledge of other woody breeding programs is highly desirable; demonstrated ability to organize, manage and lead a breeding program is required as well as setting up breeding parameters, trialing, and budgetary experience. Must be able to work with minimal supervision and work within a team based environment. Ability to travel on a regular basis is required (25–30% of time). Spanish language abilities will be favorably viewed. Demonstrated analytical, communication and organizational skills are a must.
