DOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP AVAILABLE - Virginia Tech’s Winchester AREC

A PhD research assistantship is available in the Department of Horticulture at Virginia Tech (http://www.hort.vt.edu) with lab and fieldwork based at the Alson H. Smith, Jr. Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Winchester, VA (http://www.arec.vaes.vt.edu/alson-h-smith/index.html).

The successful candidate will have an opportunity to focus on one of the following research areas: orchard soil ecology, sustainable fruit production, water and nutrient relations, or crop load management; the student will be encouraged to pursue a multidisciplinary approach to the dissertation question. S/he will be expected to develop and manage his/her research project, analyze and present findings, and publish in extension and peer reviewed sources. There will also be opportunities to present research results to growers and other key stakeholders.

Applicants must have earned an MS degree in horticulture, soil science, agronomy, plant physiology, or a related discipline from an accredited institution. The assistantship includes an annual salary stipend, tuition and fees, and health insurance benefits.
