ASHS Annual Conference

Each year, the Annual Conference attracts more than a thousand U.S. and international horticulturists who attend to learn about research and new developments in horticulture. Attendees have the opportunity to:

  • Present your research - only ASHS Members can make oral or poster presentations at the Annual Conference.
  • Attend workshops, colloquia, and short courses.
  • Learn from oral and poster presentations.
  • Network with colleagues at social events.
  • Discover the nuances of regional areas through specialty horticultural tours.

This is an ideal opportunity to network by formally and informally exchanging information, ideas, and experiences with colleagues and friends. ASHS Members receive a significant discount on their conference registration.

Working Groups

ASHS members can participate in more than 50 Working Groups that focus on topics of specific interest to provide specialized information to members. Working Groups provide a forum for members by organizing discussion groups, workshops, colloquia, regional meetings, and short courses.

The ASHS Working Group Network was created to provide a virtual forum that expands the opportunities for interaction among members and allows all parties to not only plan and organize educational events, but also to design and conduct ongoing discussion groups or facilitate access to multimedia content used in distance education or outreach. All ASHS Working Groups have access to their own private social networking website.

A ListServ program has been established for groups of ASHS members with similar interests who want to keep in regular contact, post important notices, or discuss recent findings. Members may take advantage of HortOpportunities, the job placement section of the ASHS Newsletter and the ASHS Web site. Advertised positions range from fellowships, assistantships, and postdoctoral positions, to university department heads and industry personnel. Members can also advertise in HortOpportunities, to find horticultural specialists for their own organization.

Regional Groups

There are currently two active regional groups in the U.S. in which members may participate: Southern and Northeast. Regional groups offer members the opportunity to attend smaller meetings with people working under the same climatic conditions.

Leadership Opportunities

Active Members may run for elected office. By serving on committees, councils, and boards, individuals can sharpen their leadership skills while becoming more involved in the affairs of the Society. Members who give of themselves to ASHS find that they get more out of it! Leadership opportunities are available at the local, national, and international levels.
