balances a busy schedule of gardening, teaching, writing designing and consulting. "New plants are being discovered everyday and our ecological understandings grows constantly. The excitement of designing and then seeing the installation is rewarding. I do not forsee ever getting bored in this field!" says Knapke. As a writer, Knapke has co-authored three gardening books with Alison Beck - "Perennials for Ohio", "Annuals for Ohio", and "Gardening Month by Month in Ohio".
In naming her business, Knapke wanted to incorporate herbs and gardens, so with the help of her husband came up with the name "The Garden Sage." Specifically, Knapke runs a garden design and consulting business. Along with running her own business, Knapke is presently on the faculty at Columbus State Community College teaching courses on Landscape Principles, Herbaceous Plants and Specialty Gardens. She is also a volunteer at Inniswood and sits on three advisory boards at The Kelton House, The Inniswood Garden Society, and The Walnut Grove and Flint Road Cemeteries.
While working with other graduate students at OSU, Knapke was exposed to different points of view and different strands of knowledge. She also found the job as a teaching assistant at OSU rewarding.
The green industry is forever growing, with endless career opportunities. "There are so many paths and possibilities for success in the plant sciences, it's amazing, and without plants, there would be no life on earth."
