"Callaway Gardens has been a fabulous place for me to engage both my interest in horticulture and in entomology," explains Nicole Gamble,
Interim Director of Gardens Services for Callaway Gardens. "We have a conservation mission with a focus on stewardship of our land and native plants, including the Plumleaf Azalea and Callaway Ginger, both native plants unique to this area. Callaway Gardens is a garden, preserve, and resort, with something for everyone. There is a wide range of horticultural opportunities at a place this large and diverse."
Callaway Gardens have provided Gamble with increasing responsibilities during her career path. "I have been able to serve here in several capacities, first as the florist manager, then Manager of the Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center, and I am currently serving as Interim Director of Gardens Services.
Gamble advises students to explore educational opportunities. "Many of my undergraduate experiences directly contributed to my success in the professional world. These included my experiences on international study tours in Thailand and Mexico, and participation in professional societies and organizations as a student. Also of great importance was the support of professors that took a specific interest in the success of their students, both nurturing and pushing me to do even better. I am particularly thankful for their support and guidance."
