Area of emphasis: Landscape Horticulture
Agronomist Scott Simindinger
works closely with Mercer Landmark's customers. "My responsibilities include working with customers on seeding, chemical, and fertilizer needs. My most rewarding experiences include seeing the farmers and talking with them. I enjoy knowing that I helped the farmer and that he appreciates the effort I put into helping him get the most out of his soils."
The seasons dictate Simindinger's responsibilities which include preparing fertilizer, managing equipment and developing fertility maps. "I help determine each farmer's needs and help him get the supplies he needs. I mix fertilizer that comes in on railcars to make blends for the area farmers. I do GPS work with soil sampling and make fertility maps for farmers."
The connection to other people made Simindinger's college experience special. "My Ohio State experience had the most impact on my career. My fraternity brothers showed me the ropes on west campus. These are now the people I go to for help with chemical or seed problems."
A Certified Crop Advisor, Simindinger relies on Ohio State resources to stay up-to-date. "I network with OSU alumni, plus I go to many of the extension agency programs. I often access the webpages provided by the University when I have problems. The C.O.R.N. newsletter is a must."
"Plants are important because they are a mainstay of life. The air we breathe, the food value, the comfort and joy they bring to the spirit . . . all are important aspects of plants.”
